What I was Never Taught in High School

The older I get, the more I continue to realize all of the things that I was never taught in high school. No one ever taught me how to file my taxes. I never had a class on how to open a bank account, or how to create a personal savings plan. My school didn't offer any courses on how to create a budget.

Once you graduate high school, you walk out with very little, real-life, useful information. I am sure we have all seen the Instagram meme, "thank goodness I learned all about parallelograms, that really came in handy this tax season." Funny. The other thing you walk out with is usually a big chip on your shoulder thinking the world now owes you something. The great news is, Life is a great teacher ready to give you all of the best lessons you never imagined you could possibly be in need of.

One of the best lessons I have come to learn is that at LEAST 50% of life is all psychological and emotional. The way your brain learns to receive, process, and execute information determines who you will be, and what you will accomplish in your time here on earth. I am certain, nobody explained such to me in high school before I brutally collided with real Life.

Mental health creates or destroys all of our realities. We are most often unaware we are becoming our thoughts, we are becoming our fears, we are becoming our vulnerabilities. Unless we are properly equipped and trained to handle a massive range of thoughts and emotions that we will create within ourselves, and that society will shape for us, we are not going to reach the destination we set out for the day we graduate high school. After all, the destination is the end goal of happiness.

The more I study people of great success, the more evident it becomes Mental Health is the critical factor in determining all of our lives! It does not matter what university you graduated from, it does not matter who your parents were, it does not matter what you look like, it does not matter what heart-wrenching traumas life has dealt you! What matters is how we will balance our exterior worlds with our interior realities in the most effective way.

This is why people who have everything on the outside, can be completely broken on the inside, and vice versa. There is a lack of emotional discipline and mental health to create necessary balance for us. We were never taught to evaluate our mental wellness in any capacity. On the contrary, for many people in different demographics and populations, seeking mental clinical support is essentially taboo.

Mental wellness is a journey we all need to commence yesterday. We do not have time to throw away into our "unbalanced realities", our lives are too valuable, too important. The desires we have, deep within us are too meaningful to be clouded by an unbalanced psyche. The great news is, we do not need to keep wasting any time. We are the chosen ones to live in the era of information, the era of technology, the era of change, the era of greatness.

The goal for younglosangeles.com is to create a platform accessible for us all to reach the highest levels of mental wellness. Just as we have become a society driven to physical and dietary wellness, we need clear direction in bettering our mental wellness as a generation. As I share my personal journey, and the discoveries I make, I hope to receive feedback from those who are in the advanced phases of their journeys. Together we will learn the mental health balance we never received before falling to the race of life.
